The sample obtained by a mechanical sampler requires testing for its accuracy verification. Bias testing determines the accuracy of any mechanical sampling system that collects representative samples of coal. We follow the standard methods recommended by ISO and ASTM for conducting bias test.

In bias testing, several sample pairs from the same coal is collected. One pair is sampled by the system being tested and another pair is obtained by a unbiased reference. The difference in analytical results is determined for each pair and then differences are subjected to statistical analysis to test the bias.
